As a REALTOR®, it’s common to put the needs of others before your own. With answering clients’ questions, managing your family needs and making time for friends, caring for oneself can often times take a backseat. But it’s important to note that your health is your most valuable asset. If you don’t have your health, everything else falls to the wayside.
Here are some tip and tools from the Chicago Association of REALTORS® on how you can manage your mental health and get started on your mental wellness journey.
- Time Management
It’s important to separate your personal and profession time to avoid burnout. Create a timeline for yourself for when work begins and ends, making sure to establish boundaries with clients.
When you exercise, your body releases endorphins. Research shows that endorphins have been proven to help lower anxiety and depression. If you’re not comfortable going to the gym or simply don’t have the time, have no fear! There are a ton of great online workouts and apps you can find to do in the comfort of your home.
- Mindfulness Meditation
Meditation allows you to be fully present and aware of what is happening inside and around you. It’s great way to focus your energy and thoughts and start your day in clear mindset. A great mediation app is Headspace.
It’s easy for our mind to get clouded with overwhelming thoughts and to-do lists. Journaling is a great way to get your negative thoughts and emotions down on paper. By writing them all out, you’re also releasing them from your mind.
- Talk to a Professional
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) provides a discount to Member Telehealth to its REALTORS®. Utilize this tool to talk to a professional who can diagnose and treat your problem and provide professional feedback.
