Foreign investment in residential U.S. real estate has skyrocketed up to $153 billion, according to the newly released 2017 Profile of International Activity in U.S. Residential Real Estate. The often first question is how to get started. There are simple ways to start engaging with potential customers from all over the globe.

Although the potential is great, Realtors also need to be aware of the particular challenges when trying to complete an international transaction. Financing and taxation rules vary when dealing with a foreign customer. Also cultural differences can become an obstacle when interacting in the global market.

Gonzalo Mejia, CRS, started his real estate career in 2004 and currently he is a VP/Broker Manager with Watson Realty in Jacksonville, Florida. Gonzalo has successfully completed transactions with customers from Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, England, Germany, Romania, China, Japan, India and many more countries.
