CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2008 — Washington REALTOR® Greg Hodges, CRS, GRI, was installed as the 2009 president of the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) during an inauguration ceremony held Nov. 8 in Orlando, Fla. CRS is the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS®.
For nearly two decades, Hodges has been involved with the Council at both local and national levels. He served as one of the first CRS regional vice presidents, as well as the president of what is now the Southern Nevada Chapter. Hodges is a past recipient of the Council’s Medallion Award and President’s Award. He has served on and chaired numerous local and state REALTOR® association committees and is currently the owner/broker of Americana Properties in Battle Ground, Wash.
Hodges attributes much of his real estate success to the educational opportunities offered by the Council. “Not only completing the coursework, but attending Sell-a-bration®, making associations with other top-producing CRSs, and serving on national committees within the Council provided the additional skills I needed to establish my office,” he says.
When dealing with today’s market conditions, Hodges says agents must continue to trust the tried-and-true basics. “All those basic skills and strategies taught and reinforced in the CRS courses are the keys to success in any market,” he says. “Each of our courses is positioned to address both current market conditions and provide successful time-tested ideas to better serve clients.”
The Council of Residential Specialists is a not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors® comprised of more than 43,000 members. It awards the CRS Designation to experienced Realtors® who have completed advanced professional training and demonstrated outstanding professional achievement in residential real estate.

CHICAGO, Nov. 14, 2008 — The Council of Residential Specialists announced the winners of the Chapter of the Year awards during its inaugural ceremony and awards dinner on Nov. 8 in Orlando, Fla. during the National Association of REALTORS® Conference and Expo. The Sierra Nevada CRS chapter, the Iowa chapter and the Arizona chapter were honored in the small, medium and large chapter categories, respectively.
As it entered its fourth year, the Sierra Nevada CRS chapter had great success reinstating past members, and its membership numbers were up for the year. Led by chapter president Victoria L. Williams, CRS, the chapter donated $3,000 to Casa de Vida, a non-profit that provides support services to pregnant young women. The Sierra Nevada chapter also donated to the Red Cross to provide assistance to flood victims in the area.
Under the leadership of chapter president John W. Goede, CRS, the Iowa chapter grew its membership by 33 percent this year. The chapter is working to encourage Designees to continue their education by taking more CRS classes, and is also teaming with the Iowa Association of REALTORS® to promote those classes. The Iowa chapter also donated $5,000 to flood relief and additional funds to a food bank and a charitable leukemia organization.
The Arizona chapter hosted quarterly educational networking breakfast sessions in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., and offered a free continuing education course in conjunction with the Arizona Association of REALTORS® midwinter meetings. Under the guidance of chapter president Mario T. Romero, CRS, the chapter also raised $3,000 for the Hearth Foundation and $2,000 for the charity’s back-to-school efforts.
The Chapter of the Year award is given annually to CRS chapters in three categories – small, medium and large – in recognition for their outstanding efforts to advance the Council’s mission and further the organization’s goals and objectives at the chapter level. To be eligible for this award, chapters must hold more than three meetings a year, sponsor education events, provide members with quarterly updates and promote the CRS designation.
